Canberra Potters Watson Arts Centre
Our annual Canberra Potters Open Day is on again this November. There’s no better opportunity to come and explore the Watson Arts Centre and discover what Canberra Potters can do with clay! We are brimming with expert potters and ceramic artists who will provide you with a day of demonstrations, hands-on activities, exhibitions, shop sales, open studios, trade and information tables. As a ACT Key Arts Organisation and the only one dedicated to ceramics we pride ourselves on our knowledge, skill and outstanding facility which provides an essential centre of activity to the regions ceramic artists.
Have you ever wanted to try the potters wheel, or decorate your own plate? Spend some time making clay creatures with the young and young at heart. Watch our talented demonstrators illustrate and decorate plates for firing—you can purchase one and have a go yourself. Our ever popular Raku firing will be operating throughout the day too where you can buy a pot and glaze it (under our guidance) and behold the alchemy of the Raku kiln! Other members will be building giant birds which will emerge from their skilled hands throughout the day. We will be revealing the treasures from a Pit firing that will be opened on the day—after spending more than 24hrs in our closed brick pit. There’s a chance to drop in and visit our artist studios when several of our studio holders will welcome you into their studios and discuss their work—perhaps a chance to buy direct from the artist too! Come along for an hour or two and stoke your passion for clay. There will be pizza, coffee and refreshments available on the day too!
