At the end of 2022, Canberra Potters received a generous donation of Japanese, Australian and New Zealand ceramics by local collector Bob Hay. Hay first became interested in Japanese ceramics more than half a century ago when after taking up potting, he realised that he felt most in tune with the Japanese aesthetic, the wabi-sabi which evolved out of both Shinto reverence for Nature and the Buddhist concept of impermanence and change.
We were thrilled to add these works to our permanent collection, and over the last couple of months volunteers Amanda Poland and Janette Ryan have been working hard at cataloguing the collection. Amanda has also worked with volunteer Bella Benjamin to produce a short film about Bob Hay and his collection.
Please join Canberra Potters for this special screening of the short film Bob Hay: The Eclectic Collector, and a Q&A with Bob Hay in the Canberra Potters Gallery on Friday 23 June at 6pm.
Entry by gold coin donation. Please RSVP for catering purposes.
