Introduction to Clay Intensive
Easter course overview
Suitable for beginners (clay and firing included—same curriculum as weekly but packed into 4 days).
For INTENSIVE
Dates and duration: Term 1
Saturday 11, Sunday 12, Monday 13 April and Sunday 26 April 2020.
Update 19 March 2020 - At this time this course is proceeding. The class will be split into two groups with two teachers to reduce class numbers and maintain social distancing.

This progressive course takes students through a range of techniques for working with clay.
This INTENSIVE COURSE is the same curriculum as the Weekly Course packed into 4 days.
This course takes students through a range of techniques for working with clay.

Sessions 1 to 3Â students get a feel for clay and its properties through various handbuilding techniques and projects

Session 4Â introduction to glazing
-
Sessions 5 to 7 focus on the potter’s wheel, learning to centre clay (the basis for all wheelthrowing) and form cylinders and other shapes
-
Session 8Â work produced during weeks so far is glazed ready for final firing.

Session 9Â a raku firing takes place when students will see some of their pots go through the raku rapid firing process. This is weather dependant and may not happen in very hot or high fire danger conditions.
Health and safety aspects of working with clay and pottery materials are covered during the course.

Thursday course overview
This course teaches all the basic clay techniques for handbuilding, wheelthrowing and glazing. It is offered as a nine week term class or as a 4 day intensive class.Â
