Children will explore hand building and wheel throwing under the guidance of experienced teachers, while also building friendships and social skills in a supportive environment. All materials and firings are included—just bring a cleaning sponge, hand towel, and a sense of adventure!

Pottery Class for Home-Schooled Children

This class is specially designed for children enrolled in a registered Home School program.

Unleash Your Child’s Creativity

Join us at Canberra Potters for an inspiring term of creativity, where children can explore the endless possibilities of clay. Under the guidance of experienced teachers, they’ll learn the basics of hand building and wheel throwing, bringing their creative ideas to life.

The Benefits of Pottery for Home-Schooled Children

Pottery classes offer a unique blend of creativity, hands-on learning, and social interaction—essential elements that complement a home-schooling curriculum. Children develop fine motor skills, patience, and problem-solving abilities as they work with clay. Additionally, the collaborative environment encourages socialisation, helping home-schooled students build friendships and learn teamwork in a supportive setting.

Learning Through Exploration

Our program encourages both collaborative and self-directed projects, fostering creativity and mutual friendships among the children. Whether they’re hand building or wheel throwing, students are free to explore their interests and develop their skills.

The term’s activities will be shaped by the children’s interests, with the teacher tailoring the program to their expressed ideas and skill levels. We encourage participants to bring along an art journal or notebook to document their ideas and gather images that reflect their creative goals.

Materials and Firing Included

All materials, including clay, glaze, and firing, are provided. Each child can have up to 10 pieces fired during the term as part of the course.

Parents are welcome to enrol alongside their child, making it a shared creative experience.

Important Information

Experience: No prior experience is necessary. This class is open to school-aged children 6+ years.
What to wear: Relaxed clothing and sturdy enclosed shoes are required. Long hair should be tied back, and precious jewellery should be left at home.

What to bring: Children should bring a cleaning sponge and hand towel. We recommend that children bring a drink and snack.

Duration: 1.5 hours per week for a nine-week term.
Fees: Includes tuition, shared teaching resources and tools, clay, glazing and firing of up to 10 creations per term.
Studio Clean-Up: To maintain a safe and healthy environment, it is a requirement of class attendance that participants clean their workspaces and assist with the general clean-up of the workshop at the end of each class.

Attendance is subject to Canberra Potters’ discretion, a current Working with Vulnerable People card, health & safety practices, and availability.
For health and safety reasons, children 5 years and under are not permitted in the workshops.

Terms and Conditions

Refund Policy – Classes & Short Courses:

Class fees will be refunded, less a 10% admin fee, if cancellation is notified more than 10 business days before the first class date.
If less than 10 business days’ notice is given then a refund, less 10%, will only be given if the place can be taken by another student otherwise the full fee is forfeited.
Please view your booking as a commitment to attend.
Classes cannot be transferred from one term to another or one year to another.
If a class is cancelled due to lack of enrolments, 100% of your class fee will be refunded.
All changes to bookings and refunds incur a 10% administration fee.
Canberra Potters will not issue refunds for missed classes or missed emails. Please ensure you have saved the following Canberra Potters emails to your contact list.
Canberra Potters is a teaching facility and students attend our classes to learn about pottery. Imperfect, broken and cracked items are part of the learning process. We do not provide refunds for work that cracks or breaks while drying, during firing or in general class activities.
