Canberra Potters Collection

Since its formation in 1975, Canberra Potters has gathered more than 250 works from visiting artists, workshop tutors, and (since 2012) Artists in Residence from Australia and around the world. Over time, generous private donations have also enriched the Collection.

The Collection was formally established when cataloguing began in 2022, thanks to dedicated volunteers. The first works recorded were Japanese and Australian ceramics from the private collection of Bob Hay.

By 2023–24, Canberra Potters adopted eHive, an online collection management system, making works accessible to the public, complete with photographs and makers’ marks. In 2025, more objects were added, along with biographical and technical details. The database now holds more than 150 records, each with its own catalogue number and online entry.

To mark our 50th year in 2025, Canberra Potters presented Connecting Through Clay, an exhibition showcasing a curated selection from the Permanent Collection alongside works by our esteemed Honorary Life Members.

The important work of documentation continues with the help of our volunteers, who are steadily recording the full breadth of the Collection.

We need your help!

Some works in the Collection remain by unknown makers. Their identification may be possible through makers’ marks, Canberra Potters Society records, or the knowledge of experienced ceramicists.

We invite you to browse the Canberra Potters Collection online and contribute. If you can identify an unknown maker or have information that would enrich the database, please email us at gallery@canberrapotters.com.au
