Our Hand building Pottery course is designed for those who have completed our Introduction to Clay course or have some prior experience with pottery. This course offers an opportunity to expand your hand building skills and deepen your understanding of clay work, focusing on refining techniques and creative expression.

Course Focus: Building on the foundational skills you’ve already acquired, this course delves deeper into the three essential forms of hand building: pinching, coiling, and slab building. Each technique will be explored in greater detail, allowing you to refine your craftsmanship and tackle more complex projects.

  • Advanced Pinching: Further develop your pinching technique to create more intricate and refined forms. Explore how to manipulate clay with greater precision to achieve delicate, well-balanced pieces.
  • Complex Coiling: Learn to create larger and more sophisticated structures using the coiling method. You’ll experiment with different coil sizes and shapes to construct vessels and sculptures with increased stability and artistic flair.
  • Refined Slab Building: Master the art of soft and hard clay slab building, focusing on creating precise, clean lines and complex forms. You’ll explore advanced joining techniques and how to incorporate texture and surface decoration into your work.

What You’ll Achieve: Throughout the course, you’ll work on developing strong, well-resolved pots or sculptures that reflect your growing skill and creativity. With the guidance of our experienced instructor, you’ll receive personalised feedback to help you push the boundaries of your clay work. By the end of the course, you’ll have the confidence to continue your pottery journey in even more specialised or independent projects.
