Are you ready to refine your throwing technique and expand your skills on the pottery wheel? Our Clay Foundations: Intermediate Wheel course is designed for those with prior wheel experience who want to take their pottery to the next level. This course focuses on enhancing your existing skills and pushing your boundaries in throwing.

Course Overview

This course delves into intermediate level throwing techniques, offering structured guidance and hands-on practice to improve your craft. You’ll work on creating more complex forms, such as mugs with well-proportioned handles, bowls with refined curves, taller cylinders, and small vases. Through expert instruction, you’ll focus on precision, control, and consistency to elevate your work.

Refined Throwing Techniques: Learn how to tackle taller forms, achieve thinner walls, manage challenging shapes and replicate forms consistently

Trimming Mastery: Perfect your trimming skills to achieve professional-looking bases and proportions.

This course is ideal for those with basic wheel-throwing experience who are ready to build on their foundation. Beginners should first complete a wheel basics throwing course to ensure they’re prepared for the challenges of intermediate-level techniques.

Important Information

Course Details:

  • Duration: 9 weeks, 3 hours per session
  • Skill Level: Intermediate. Beginner to intermediate wheel throwing skills required
  • Materials: Clay, glaze and firing are an additional cost and can be paid through the shop or during class.
  • What to Bring:
    • Sturdy covered shoes
    • An apron
    • Your toolkit
    • An old towel or microfibre cloth

Studio Clean-Up: To maintain a safe and healthy environment, it is a requirement of class attendance that participants clean their workspaces and assist with the general clean-up of the workshop at the end of each class.

Health and Safety: Canberra Potters is committed to providing a safe environment for all our staff, members, and students. We ask that you keep our community safe by following all safety protocols and signage while on site. Your adherence to these guidelines ensures a productive and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Terms and Conditions

Refund Policy – Classes & Short Courses:

  • Class fees will be refunded, less a 10% admin fee, if cancellation is notified more than 10 business days before the first class date.
  • If less than 10 business days’ notice is given then a refund, less 10%, will only be given if the place can be taken by another student otherwise the full fee is forfeited.
  • Please view your booking as a commitment to attend.
  • Classes cannot be transferred from one term to another or one year to another.
  • If a class is cancelled due to lack of enrolments, 100% of your class fee will be refunded.
  • All changes to bookings and refunds incur a 10% administration fee.
  • Canberra Potters will not issue refunds for missed classes or missed emails. Please ensure you have saved the following Canberra Potters emails to your contact list.
  • Canberra Potters is a teaching facility and students attend our classes to learn about pottery. Imperfect, broken and cracked items are part of the learning process. We do not provide refunds for work that cracks or breaks while drying, during firing or in general class activities.

Booking Policy

  • Canberra Potters does not offer make up classes.
  • Payment in full is required as the time of booking to secure a place.
  • CPS member discounts apply to course fees.
  • All bookings are made by accessing our website
  • All prices are subject to change.
  • Classes are run subject to numbers.
  • Once a class has commenced no refunds will be issued.
