Description
Working in the Canberra Potters Glaze Room, Katrina Leske will guide students through the essentials of glaze behaviour, application and testing. The first session combines clear explanations of glaze fundamentals with hands-on glazing, giving you the opportunity to apply techniques directly to your own work.
After the firing, the group reconvenes to examine the results together. This second session focuses on analyzing what happened in the kiln – why glazes behaved the way they did, how clay bodies affect colour and surface, and how to refine your glazing approach for future pieces.
This course is ideal for potters who feel unsure about glazing, or who want to move beyond guesswork and start making informed decisions about glaze selection and application.
What you will explore
- how glazes work and what their key ingredients do
- preparing bisque ware for successful glazing
- practical application techniques including dipping and pouring
