Make Your Own Quirky Clay Critters!
Get ready to sculpt, decorate and bring your imagination to life! In this 8 week course, children aged 6–12 will explore the world of clay sculpture, creating a menagerie of quirky and character-filled critters.

Guided by Anna O’Neale, whose own practice is full of imaginative and playful forms, students will learn a range of handbuilding techniques and surface decoration methods, including working with coloured slips, stamps and sgraffito.

Once their creations have been fired in the kiln, children will have the chance to add extra finishing touches using a variety of mixed materials -making each critter truly unique.

This class encourages curiosity, creativity and confidence, with a focus on fun, experimentation and self-expression.

Clay and firings are included, with option for children to bring along extra recycled materials from home to decorating towards the end of the term.

Important Information

Experience: No prior experience is necessary. This class is open to school-aged children 6+ years.
What to wear: Relaxed clothing and sturdy enclosed shoes are required. Long hair should be tied back, and precious jewellery should be left at home.
What to bring: Children should bring a cleaning sponge and hand towel. We recommend that children bring a drink and snack.
Duration: 1.5 hours per week for a nine-week term.
Fees: Includes tuition, shared teaching resources and tools, clay, glazing and firing of up to 10 creations per term.
Studio Clean-Up: To maintain a safe and healthy environment, it is a requirement of class attendance that participants clean their workspaces and assist with the general clean-up of the workshop at the end of each class.

Attendance is subject to Canberra Potters’ discretion, a current Working with Vulnerable People card, health & safety practices, and availability.
For health & safety reasons, children 5 years and under are not permitted in the workshops.

Terms and Conditions

Refund Policy – Classes & Short Courses:

Class fees will be refunded, less a 10% admin fee, if cancellation is notified more than 10 business days before the first class date.
If less than 10 business days’ notice is given then a refund, less 10%, will only be given if the place can be taken by another student otherwise the full fee is forfeited.
Please view your booking as a commitment to attend.
Classes cannot be transferred from one term to another or one year to another.
If a class is cancelled due to lack of enrolments, 100% of your class fee will be refunded.
All changes to bookings and refunds incur a 10% administration fee.
Canberra Potters will not issue refunds for missed classes or missed emails. Please ensure you have saved the following Canberra Potters emails to your contact list.
Canberra Potters is a teaching facility and students attend our classes to learn about pottery. Imperfect, broken and cracked items are part of the learning process. We do not provide refunds for work that cracks or breaks while drying, during firing or in general class activities.
