What you will learn

All our general class teachers are experienced potters in their own right and are equally at home teaching both wheelthrowing and handbuilding techniques.

About the artist

Richilde is a Canberra based emerging artist working with ceramics. Material curiosity orientates Richilde’s practice: she is interested in using clay in a variety of ways to articulate and explore her surroundings. This process has resulted in experimental, gallery based projects, where ceramics are used in spatial installation informed by experience of the natural environment. Richilde also makes functional work under the name Girl Nomad Ceramics. https://girlnomadceramics.com/
As a teacher Richilde is especially interested in what the student wants from their time at Canberra Potters. Many people choose a pottery class to unwind and to do something tactile with their hands, others have a specific goal or project in mind. Richilde will facilitate a light hearted and exploratory class whatever a student’s aims.
Richilde received a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Ceramics) from the Australian National University in 2015. For her graduating work Richilde received several Emerging Artist Support Scheme (EASS) Awards, including the Craft ACT Exhibition award, the Strathnairn Arts Inaugural Anita McIntyre Exhibition and Residency award and the Canberra Potters’ Society Residency award.

About the artist

Cathy Franzi is a full-time studio artist and was awarded a Doctorate of Visual Arts (Ceramics) from the Australian National University School of Art in 2015. Through her ceramic practice she explores ways to represent Australian flora and the environments they inhabit.
Cathy brings a depth and breadth of ceramic experience to her teaching. She has worked with potters in the UK, Ireland and New Zealand, been a production thrower for large potteries, and participated in conferences and workshops in most ceramic genres. She aims to share her fascination with the wealth of cultural and historical ideas that ceramics contain.
Cathy Franzi’s work is held in public collections, including Canberra Museum and Gallery, the ACT Legislative Assembly Art Collection and Manly Art Gallery and Museum. In 2013, a work from her solo exhibition ‘Painting the Hills of Canberra’ was included in the Canberra Centenary Time Capsule. Currently she is a Visiting Fellow in the Research School of Biology, ANU as part of the 2016 Vice-Chancellor’s College Artist Fellows Scheme.
