About the artist

Maryke taught for many years in educational establishments, workshops and from her own studio when she lived in the New England region of NSW. After many years of professional potting, Maryke moved to Canberra and undertook full-time studies at the ANU School of Art, graduating in 2005. She has been teaching at Canberra Potters since 2003. The surface and the ability to create a finish that speaks of layering and aging has always fascinated Maryke. In her own practice, most of Maryke’s work is thrown, manipulated, altered and assembled. Soda-firing, where soda is added to a kiln at high temperature to create a glaze, enhances her beautifully-made forms.
