Students will learn to throw and refine a range of different forms such as bowls, mugs, vases and plates. A variety of decorative and finishing techniques will also be explored.
About the artist
Richilde is a Canberra based emerging artist working with ceramics. Material curiosity orientates Richilde’s practice: she is interested in using clay in a variety of ways to articulate and explore her surroundings. This process has resulted in experimental, gallery-based projects, where ceramics are used in spatial installation informed by experience of the natural environment. Richilde also makes functional work under the name
Girl Nomad Ceramics.Â

Sculpture, Handbuilding & Assemblage course with Anna O’Neil
This progressive course is suitable for beginners who have completed
Introduction to Clay or students who have completed any of the
Continuing Clay classes.

intermediate and advanced students who would like to explore sculpture, assemblage and handbuilding techniques.
What you will learn
Anna will inspire you to let your creativity fly in this course.
She will give you the skills to make the handbuilt projects that are currently only in your head.
Anna is an expert in building fun fantasy creatures by embedding found objects into ceramics.
While sculpture is a focus of this course Anna will help you to make anything you are keen to make, from the functional to the fantastic.
So bring along your wildest ideas, or your most delicate designs and Anna will help you bring them to life.
About the artist
Anna is a ceramic sculptor whose focus lies in the creation of anthropomorphic creatures that blur the boundaries of human, animal and machine. Her contemporary sculptures embody human characteristics, each with their own personality. They are cartoon-like, comical and playful. In 2015 she graduated from the ANU with a Bachelor of Visual Arts in Ceramics and in 2016 was awarded a residency with Canberra Potters and started working with us shortly after that.

This progressive course is suitable for beginners who have completed Introduction to Clay or students who have completed any of the Continuing Clay classes.
Special needs
Please purchase a visual diary/sketchbook (A4 minimum) to bring to class.

9 weeks from Saturday 8 February to Saturday 11 March 2020 (Easter).

The class includes
Throughout the course Erin will help you to explore:
• Source material – the art and necessity of looking and recording (digital/drawing/painting)
• Scale and form (developing an idea, complex curves, energy lines).
What you will learn
The focus of the course is on developing your skills and understanding of the three basic forms of handbuilding – pinching, coiling and slab building. You will learn techniques for making refined, strong and resolved pots and or sculptures of your own design.
If you are seeking inspiration and guidance to develop your personal style, Erin will guide you through a series of structured activities to bring your ideas to life.
If you are already full of ideas, she will provide you with the technical knowledge and skills needed for you to achieve your goals.
