This class is for children and young people aged 10 years and older or those 9+ with previous experience and an interest in learning to throw and create projects on the potter's wheel. If you are not sure if this class is right for your young person please contact the Education Program Manager on 62417800 to discuss options.

Your child or young person will spend a term learning the fundamentals of how to prepare and centre their clay and create simple forms using the potter’s wheel.

Experienced teachers will assist both beginners and more experienced children and young people to build their skills and develop their ideas to bring their creations to life with a range of  throwing, glaze and decoration techniques. Children and young people will also be encouraged to review their work and learn to critique and make decisions about how to alter work as their skills develop. Parents are welcome to enrol with their child/ren and share the fun.

Some prior experience with clay is an advantage.

Clay, glaze and firing are included. Canberra Potters will fire up to 10 pieces for each enrolled child or young person as part of this course.

Parents and Carers who wish to attend to support a child with identified additional needs please note the following:

  • Prior arrangement must be made by contacting [email protected]
  • Attendance will be at the discretion of Canberra Potters
  • Is subject to the provision of a current Working with Vulnerable People card, COVIDSafe practice and class enrolment availability
  • For health & safety reasons children under 5 years are not permitted in the workshops.
