Ceramics for Teens: Explore, Create, and Develop Your Artistic Voice
This course is ideal for teenagers aged 14 to 18 who already have some experience in ceramics, have a strong interest in visual arts, or are studying art at school with a passion for ceramics. It’s perfect for those considering future studies in the arts, developing an art portfolio, or simply looking to expand their creative horizons while connecting with others who share their interests.
Course Overview: Designed for young artists seeking to explore the world of ceramics and elevate their skills, term class offers a unique opportunity to embark on a creative journey guided by experienced ceramic artists and teachers, Abbey Jamieson (Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours), Ceramics) and Maricelle Olivier (Master of Fine Arts, Ceramics).
What to Expect:
- Artistic Mentorship: Receive guidance and tuition from experienced potters and artists who will help you develop your unique interests and skills.
- Explore Advanced Techniques: Enhance your ceramic techniques, including wheel-throwing, glaze application, handbuilding, and surface decoration.
- Develop Your Style: Begin to discover and cultivate your personal artistic style, exploring your unique voice in ceramics.
- Create a Portfolio: As part of the course, you can choose to create an art journal, documenting your artistic journey and growth over the nine weeks. You will also learn the importance of maintaining an art journal to inform your practice.
- Express Through Personal Projects: Pursue your creative vision through personalised clay projects, tailored to your interests.
- Critique and Feedback: Participate in regular critique sessions within a supportive and constructive environment, learning how to give and receive feedback to improve your work.
- Collaborate and Connect: Build a network with peers who share your passion for ceramics and the arts, creating a fun and collaborative learning environment.
Course Inclusions: Your course fee includes clay, firing services, a pottery toolkit, and an art journal for newly enrolled students.
Important Details:
- Prerequisites: Some prior experience/interest in ceramics, a strong interest in visual arts, or studying art at school is helpful.
- Safety and Supervision: Canberra Potters is committed to providing a safe environment for all our staff, members, and students. All our teachers have Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) clearance. We ask you to help keep our community safe by following all safety protocols and signage while on site.
- Duration: Two hours per week for a nine-week term.
- Fees: Includes tuition, clay, a pottery toolkit, studio access, and glazing and firing services.
- What to Bring: Please bring an apron, an old towel or microfibre cloth for cleaning up, wear sturdy, covered shoes, tie back long hair, and leave any precious jewellery at home for safety.
- Studio Clean-Up: To maintain a safe and healthy environment, it is a requirement of class attendance that participants clean their workspaces and assist with the general clean-up of the workshop at the end of each class.
