Finding a voice – Pathways to creative outcomes in clay with Jeff Mincham

Workshop One

This two-day masterclass with Ceramic Artist, Jeff Mincham, will explore the process of building and finishing a range of ceramic forms by throwing on a wheel and altering using a variety of hand-building techniques. A range of forms derived from slabs and coil-building methods will also be explored.

The development of Mid fire glazes and their unique characteristics will be explored along with surface treatments and decorative techniques.

The demonstrations will be supported by visual presentations and a video.

Jeff will encourage participants to explore their approach to form and surface treatments and to nuance their making process with fluency through the application of techniques and touches to create beautiful, resolved forms.

Jeff Mincam is an Australian Master Ceramicist & Member of the Order of Australia. He is a Living Treasure - Master of Craft 2009. Jeff is a full-time ceramic artist with over forty years professional practice working from his home studio in the Adelaide Hills, Jeff Mincham has produced an extensive body of work over that period, which has had a resounding influence on contemporary Australian ceramics. Jeff will be Artist in Residence at Canberra Potters during March & April and holding an exhibition Viva la Vrai in the gallery. Find out more here

Clay can be purchased during the workshop. Jeff will work with Keanes Special K and encourages participants to do the same during the workshop. Firing is not included.
