We are delighted to invite you to the Artist Talk for Endless Horizons: The Art of Hiroe Swen. This artist talk by the esteemed ceramic artist Hiroe Swen will be one of the last opportunities to hear her talk about her ceramic practice and artisitic journey before she returns to live in Japan. This is a central highlight of our 50th anniversary celebrations at Canberra Potters and is a rare opportunity to learn about Hiroe’s remarkable achievements over five decades.
Hiroe’s artistic journey in the ACT region spans much of the history of Canberra Potters itself. Since arriving in Australia more than 50 years ago, she has earned a highly respected position as a Member and teacher within our community. Her tireless studio practice, constant refinement of her techniques, and dedication to education have garnered recognition from both the Australian and Japanese governments. Hiroe’s work, shaped by her early experiences in Kyoto, transcends any simple definition of ‘Japanese-ness,’ instead embodying timeless simplicity and beauty, epitomized by the concept of Ma in Japanese art.
This event is free. We would love to see you there.
