These classes are designed for people with some clay experience, who wish to focus on learning specific skills or techniques. Each course focuses on a set of skills and techniques skills and assists students to develop their individual style and ideas. Clay and tools can be purchased in class or from our shop. Wheel Basics

This course is for people who have some experience of working on the wheel (eg have completed our Introduction to Clay Course).
Students will learn to throw and refine a range of different forms such as bowls, mugs, vases and plates. A variety of decorative and finishing techniques, including glazing, will also be explored.

Handbuilding & Sculpture

The focus of the course is on developing student skills and understanding of the three basic forms of handbuilding: pinching, coiling and slab building. Students will learn techniques for making refined, strong and resolved pots and or sculptures of their own design.

Suitable for
  • handbuilders
  • wheelthrowers who are able to centre with confidence (eg have completed Wheel Basics or have previous wheel experience).
Students will learn a range of making techniques and be assisted to plan their making using a provided template and a sketchbook/visual diary. They will explore principles of design and further develop their technical knowledge. They will develop and refine their forms and focus on developing a personal style.
