We’re pleased present this Sunday Skills Session for Canberra Potters members with a hands-on workshop in photo printing on clay, led by regarded artist Lea Durie.

Over three hours, Lea will guide you through the process of transferring photographs onto leather hard clay using a simple photo lithography printing technique. Using readily available art and ceramic materials, you’ll learn how to create detailed photographic transfers in just minutes, opening up exciting possibilities for decorating tiles, vessels and sculptural work.

This practical workshop will cover:

  • Preparing suitable laser-printed images
  • The photo lithography transfer process
  • Applying photographic imagery to leather hard clay
  • Tips for achieving clear, successful transfers
  • Creative applications for incorporating photographic imagery into your ceramic practice

Suitable for Canberra Potters members with some previous clay experience, this workshop offers an accessible way to expand your surface decoration techniques and experiment with a process that can easily be incorporated into your own studio practice. All materials and leather hard tiles will be provided at the workshop for you to try yourself.

After the workshop, participants are welcome to stay for lunch (please bring your own) and continue connecting with fellow members. You may then choose to stay for an optional Members’ Access Session from 1pm-4pm. This independent studio session provides the opportunity to practise your new skills in a relaxed, communal atmosphere.

These Sunday Skills Sessions are about learning, connection and shared studio energy – we’re looking forward to continuing this offering with you.
