Create playful ceramic sound makers in this fun family workshop for ages 6- 12 years old. Across two sessions, you will make a clay whistle or ocarina and a sculptural bell or rattle while learning simple handbuilding techniques and exploring sound through clay. Bring your imagination – creatures, characters and experimental forms are all encouraged. No experience needed.

Description

Make music from clay in this playful two-part workshop for children and their family members or carers. You will create two imaginative ceramic sound makers: a clay whistle or ocarina, and a sculptural bell or rattle.

Across the two sessions on Monday & Tuesday, participants will explore how shape, hollow form and movement create sound while learning simple handbuilding and decorative techniques. Both projects will be started in the first session and refined, assembled and decorated in the second.

There is plenty of room for creativity and invention – creatures, tiny worlds, abstract forms and playful characters are all welcome. Bring your imagination and curiosity as you experiment with sound, sculpture and clay.

Suitable for ages 6 – 12 years old. Parents and carers are welcome to enrol alongside their child to join in the fun. No previous experience necessary.

Notes:

- Wear sturdy, covered shoes, tie back long hair, and leave any precious jewellery at home for safety. Bring an old towel and an apron, your morning tea and a water bottle.

- Duration: Three hours per class for 2 classes.
- Fees: Includes tuition and studio access, clay and firing of 2 pieces included in course cost.
- What to Bring:
- Wear sturdy, covered shoes, tie back long hair, and leave any precious jewellery at home for safety. Bring an old towel and an apron.
- Bring your own morning tea and a water bottle
- Studio Clean-Up: To maintain a safe and healthy environment, it is a requirement of class attendance that participants clean their workspaces and assist with the general clean-up of the workshop at the end of each class.

Pieces will be available for collection 4 weeks after final class

Terms and Conditions

Refund Policy – Classes & Short Courses:

Class fees will be refunded, less a 10% admin fee, if cancellation is notified more than 10 business days before the first class date.
If less than 10 business days’ notice is given then a refund, less 10%, will only be given if the place can be taken by another student otherwise the full fee is forfeited.
Please view your booking as a commitment to attend.
Classes cannot be transferred from one term to another or one year to another.
If a class is cancelled due to lack of enrolments, 100% of your class fee will be refunded.
All changes to bookings and refunds incur a 10% administration fee.
Canberra Potters will not issue refunds for missed classes or missed emails. Please ensure you have saved the following Canberra Potters emails to your contact list.
Canberra Potters is a teaching facility and students attend our classes to learn about pottery. Imperfect, broken and cracked items are part of the learning process. We do not provide refunds for work that cracks or breaks while drying, during firing or in general class activities.
