Mark Saunders

Mark completed a Bachelor of Visual Art Major in Ceramics at the ANU in 2014. He was an EASS recipient in 2014 from Canberra Potters and Alliance Francaise and exhibited at both during 2015.

Mark’s distinctive marbling techniques, using mid fire casting slip and coloured stains, are evocative of Italian marbled paper. The intricate patterns decorate his current line of vessels.

Lia Tajcnar

Lia Tajcnar has been a practicing artist for over 25 years and is currently focusing on ceramics. Her practice is about exploring experimental ways of working with clay and using complexity in three-dimensional form to engage with ideas of perception and representing the process of creativity. Concepts are integrated into creating interesting problems to solve, and engaging with technical/design elements. Lia is interested in taking techniques and working methods from other disciplines and integrating them with clay. She says about ceramics: “Part of what excites me about ceramics is the possibility of being able to incorporate the technical aspects of so many other methods of making – and pushing the borders of what ceramics can be.”
Lia has been working on making sculptural pieces with ceramic and mixed media as well as exploring printmaking techniques on clay. Ever developing, these past three years she has also been working on a body of ceramic and resin jewelery for exhibition and retail.
Lia has a Masters of Philosophy in ceramics from the ANU School of Art and has taught at the ANU in Art Theory, Core Studies and at the Ceramic Department. She also has BFAs in painting and ceramics and has participated in many solo and group exhibitions as well as receiving numerous awards and prizes.

Jo Victoria

Jo Victoria

Jo Victoria

Jo Victoria’s art practices has focused on revealing the hidden stories in landscapes.

Jo is interested in exploring the qualities of a place and attempting to capture a feeling, or an essence of this place within the work she create. She is interested in giving voice to silent histories that are embodied or encased in a place.

Jo seeks inspiration from the rocky outcrops that lay witness to deep time at her favourite south coast destination that forms the intertidal zone between wild ocean and estuary, sandwiched between white rounded beaches and rugged cliff faces. These various watery weathered places hold stories within their forms, some will never be known, some may be revealed by natural and cultural interference. She uses images that appear fossil like within the body of the works as metaphors for these embodied stories.  These images are revealed with light through thin translucent walls, ghost like. Watery glazes hint at the oceans influence and sharp, vulnerable yet resilient edges on the forms provide a delicate yet dangerous  feel to the exposed bleached vessels. These qualities speak of the vulnerability, strength and danger of the ocean’s edge.
